Welcome Major Christopher Marques
In the heart of every thriving community, there are individuals who dedicate their lives to making a positive impact on others. Major Christopher Marques, a devoted individual of The Salvation Army, exemplifies this spirit of selflessness and dedication. With a career spanning different states and countries, he has experienced an impactful journey that shaped him into the compassionate leader he is today.
Major Marques' journey with The Salvation Army began at a young age when his mother introduced him to its noble mission. Growing up in Decatur, Illinois, he and his sister actively participated in youth programs and corps cadet activities. As he reminisces about those early days, he speaks of the love and sense of community that surrounded them, leaving a lasting impression on his desire to help people more.
Throughout his career, Major Marques embraced change as an opportunity for growth. He embarked on an inspiring adventure, serving in various locations, each presenting unique challenges and rewards. From Beloit, Wisconsin, to Tokyo, Japan, and finally settling in Princeton, Indiana, Major Marques never shied away from diving into new experiences.
Japan, with its distinct culture and traditions, gave him the chance to impact the lives of older and the younger population in need. Recognizing the need for younger officers, he devoted himself to supporting the aging population, participating in youth activities like camp, and teaching English. His involvement showcased The Salvation Army's unwavering commitment to compassion and care within the community. After spending some time in Japan, he realized the need to return to the states, briefly stopping in Chicago before landing in Princeton, Indiana. In Princeton, Major Marques helped the corps with financial assistance and revitalized its activities.
As Major Marques steps into a different kind of role, he is excited for the new challenges that will come. Instead of leading a single corps, he now has the opportunity to support and assist officers in various corps. In his role as Divisional Secretary and Area Command for Northwest Indiana, he aims to be an encourager, supporter, and mediator for those he works with.
Throughout his journey, Major Marques found solace and guidance in his favorite bible verse, Psalm 16: 5 – 7. This verse describes boundary lines that fall in pleasant places. Moving to a new place, he learned the lines in which he now lives and serves. He choose to believe God has a purpose for brining us all here for such a time as this. Accepting this, he choose to rely on God for strength, guidance and counsel. While also having wisdom to know how to best work within certain lines, so it can help create that balance of rest and being still before God. Ultimately, that is his prayer for himself and all his colleagues who have moved as well.
Major Christopher Marque's remarkable journey with The Salvation Army exemplifies a life devoted to serving others, fostering growth, and embracing change. His experiences in various locations have shaped him into an ambassador of hope, compassion, and support. As he steps into his new role, the community he will serve can look forward to a leader who will wholeheartedly dedicate himself to helping and supporting them in any way they may need.
