Welcome Major Steven Koehler
Major Steven Koehler's Salvation Army journey is a testament to a lifetime of dedication and service. With a deep-rooted connection to The Salvation Army, his parents served as lay leaders, instilling in him a passion for ministry from an early age.
In 2014, Major Steven made the decision to retire as The Salvation Army officer to become a full-time caregiver for his wife until her passing in 2021. Now, with a renewed sense of purpose, he eagerly looks forward to returning to full-time ministry in the Hammond-Munster area here in Indiana, aiming to make a positive impact on the community for The Salvation Army.
With 28 years of experience as a corps officer for The Salvation Army, Major Steven brings with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role. Throughout his career, he has assisted in a variety of traditional SA programs and achieved great success in organizing annual donor and volunteer appreciation dinners. These events have seen the participation of celebrities, dignitaries, and the unwavering support of the local community.
Through his time at The Salvation Army and his personal life, Captain Steven Koehler has found inspiration from Matthew 14:27, especially during difficult seasons in his life. Matthew 14:27, tells of a time when Jesus reassures his disciples by saying, "Don't be afraid... Take courage. I am here!" This scripture resonates deeply with him, reminding him that ministry can be intense, but with Christ at the center, there is boundless power and courage to fulfill during his time serving.
Indiana warmly welcomes Captain Steven as he embarks on this new chapter of his ministry. His lifelong connection to The Salvation Army, combined with his unwavering faith and extensive experience, make him a great addition to The Salvation Army Hammond-Munster Corps and Community Center
