Service Extension

There are currently 52 counties in Indiana in which Salvation Army programs, services and assistance is offered through The Salvation Army’s Service Extension program.

Currently, 24 counties in Indiana have established Salvation Army Corps Community Centers, facilities that are used to serve residents in their local communities in a variety of ways under management of The Salvation Army Indiana Division.

Whether ensuring Salvation Army programs and services are provided by established Salvation Army Corps Community Centers or by the Service Extension program, The Salvation Army is committed to helping Hoosiers in every Indiana county.

In communities where no physical Salvation Army presence exists, the responsibility to make Salvation Army programs and services available falls on Service Extension.

HOW DOES SERVICE EXTENSION OPERATE?

The program is a network of local volunteers — people just like you — who believe in the mission and the message of the Salvation Army and agree to represent the Army in their community. Through these volunteers, the Salvation Army’s mission is carried out every day all across the state. Service Extension provides for emergency needs, such as food needs, clothing, emergency lodging, rent or utility assistance and other critical needs.

Service Extension also operates other community programs, such as Tools for Schools, a League of Mercy nursing home visitation program and summer camp scholarships for youth.

Homeless shelters, domestic abuse centers and drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are located in larger cities throughout the state with some available free of charge for those who need the Salvation Army’s assistance. Teams are also located throughout the state to provide immediate response when disaster strikes our communities. Each Indiana county covered by Service Extension is self-funded, responsible for raising the funds necessary for the Salvation Army to extend local support. When you donate to the Salvation Army’s Service Extension program, your donation is used to support programs and services to help people of need in your community.

Additional funding is obtained through Service Extension Red Kettle campaigns during the Christmas season and through the support of local United Way and United Fund campaigns.

WHO IS THE DIRECTOR OF SERVICE EXTENSION?

Billie Kay is the director of Salvation Army Service Extension.  She leads the program from the Salvation Army Indiana Division’s headquarters in Indianapolis and also directs a team of field representatives covering separate regions of the state. You may reach Billie Kay by phone at (317) 224-1055, or (800) 589-1037.

If you’re looking for a local Service Extension representative to contact in your town, city or county, browse through our statewide index below, with county-by-county contact information.
