Rent & Utility Assistance

The Johnson County Red Shield Center offers rent and utility assistance to only Johnson County residents.  Due to the limited availability of funds, assistance is given one time per year on a first come - first serve basis. 

To Apply for rent/utility assistance, you will need to provide the following:

• Valid photo ID
• Proof of active income in the home
• Job offer letter
• Paystubs within the last 30 days
• Social Security or Disability award letter.

For all financial requests, we will need to know that the rest of the bill will be paid as we would like to be the last pledge. If your bill is over $300.00, we will be first sending an email to you with informational referrals to other churches and resources in the area that can help collaborate with us financially to help bring down your total amount of your bill.  All our checks go through the mail. Your landlord will need to be ok with this pledge option.

Rent Assistance:

We can help with an active Lease, mortgage, or assistance toward first month’s rent and deposit. (You must be approved for apartment or rental home prior to donation).

We will need a copy of your current lease or a letter from your property management company on their letterhead with lease dates that is signed and dated by management.  If renting from a private landlord, you may submit a letter from your landlord.  It must be signed and include your landlord’s name and phone number, as well as your current address and lease dates.

We cannot help with Hotel/Motel Assistance vouchers 

Utility Assistance:

We can help with an active electric, gas, and water/sewer bill.

We cannot help toward deposits toward starting up a utility account or prepaid accounts.

To apply for Utility assistance you will need to provide the following:

• A copy of your most recent utility bill that shows the balance due
• Proof that rent is up to date for the current month if we are assisting with rent.
