Backpack Giveaway This Saturday
In support of local families and children in need during back-to-school season, The Salvation Army of Kent County held its annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive over the course of three days last weekend at four Walmart locations in Grand Rapids. The Salvation Army would like to extend a thank you to the community for their generous donations and to Walmart for their great partnership.
On Monday morning, members of the Women’s Auxiliary gathered at the Fulton Heights Citadel Corps/Church to fill backpacks with supplies. The backpacks were loaded up with school essentials such as notebooks, rulers, markers, glue sticks, highlighters, pencils, pens, folders and tissue boxes. The Women’s Auxiliary has been joyfully helping to stuff backpacks for the last 15 years.
Around 200 of the backpacks will be given away by Fulton Heights this Saturday, Aug. 14 from 9-11 a.m. All families with children in grades K-6 are welcome to attend this drive-thru style event, which will be held at 1235 Fulton St E, and parents must bring their kids with them. For the latest info on the backpack giveaway, follow Fulton Heights’ Facebook page.
With many families dealing with the impacts of the pandemic, The Salvation Army wants to help make sure local kids have the tools they need to have a successful school year.
As back-to-school season gets into full swing, the Kroc Center and the Fulton Heights Citadel Corps/Church provide many after-school programs and extracurricular activities for kids. Visit their websites for more information on how to get involved.
