West Michigan Whitecaps Partner with The Salvation Army for the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

When most people think of the holidays, they think of Salvation Army bells and snow, but things were a little different July 25th in Kent County! The West Michigan Whitecaps baseball team partnered with The Salvation Army for Christmas in July. While Santa and Mrs. Claus were at the game; temperatures were in the 80’s and no snow was to be found.

To get the game started, Salvation Army Grand Rapids Advisory Board Chair Steve Watkins threw the first pitch, followed by the national anthem performed on the field by the Fulton Heights Citdel band.

In between innings, Grand Valley Area Commander Major Tim Meyer was interviewed in the Whitecaps broadcast booth, and members of the Grand Rapids Echelon society manned the Salvation Army information table and took part in games on the sideline. The other highlight of the evening came when the Whitecaps dramatically won the game at the bottom of the ninth inning!

The event would not have been possible without the help of our generous sponsor Terrino Homes! Event proceeds will go to help support Salvation Army programs.
