Happy National Volunteer Week!

Apr 20, 2021

During National Volunteer Week, The Salvation Army of Kent County would like to recognize and thank the volunteers who dedicated their time with us last year. While 2020 presented a number of challenges, the need for volunteers remained and we are incredibly grateful for those who came alongside us as we continued to serve our neighbors in need.

Last year, 3,171 individuals combined to spend 10,817 hours volunteering with us. Each individual and every hour represents a positive impact on our community.

These individuals touched nearly every program and service we offer, including providing much-needed help to Divisional Headquarters, the Kroc Center and Fulton Heights Corps Community Centers, Kent County Social Services, Housing Assessment Program, and Turning Point Programs. Some of the tasks they aided in included sorting toys at our Angel Tree site and distributing them to families, and organizing and delivering food at our food pantry.

Our Emergency Disaster Services team was blessed with 16,020 volunteer hours throughout the year as they served a total of 15,489 individuals. Our Emotional and Spiritual Care Hotline, which was established in April 2020 to help those struggling with pandemic-related stress, had 2,480 response on scene volunteer hours as the hotline made 6,216 contacts during 2020.

The National Commanders would like to express their gratitude and give an update on what volunteers are doing nationally.
