The Salvation Army of Kent County invites the community to its seventh annual Red Shield Event entitled “Pivoting Through Adversity with John O’Leary,” which will be held virtually on Wednesday, April 14 from 6:30-7:15 p.m. During this celebratory event, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about how The Salvation Army’s programs have grown and changed during the pandemic, hear testimonials, and be inspired by national bestselling author and speaker, John O’Leary.
Given less than a 1% chance to live after a childhood house fire, O’Leary’s transformational message about pivoting through adversity is timely for the current environment.
Registration is now open and tickets can be purchased online. Ticket prices are $15 for regular or $25 to receive a copy of O’Leary’s latest book, “In Awe.” Registrations will be accepted until the day of the event and proceeds will directly benefit The Salvation Army of Kent County. Attendees who register by March 31 will receive a tasty treat in the mail to enjoy during the event.
“During this past year we have all learned to adapt to ever-changing circumstances,” said Major Glen Caddy, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army of Western Michigan and Northern Indiana. “Our guest will inspire us to look beyond the need to survive to being able to thrive. We would love for you to join us and be inspired as we celebrate the ministry of The Salvation Army in Kent County during these very unusual times.”
The event, which will be emceed by Divisional Commander Major Glen Caddy and WOOD TV8’s Michele DeSelms, will be viewable via YouTube and a link will be provided to registrants via email.
The Red Shield Event is The Salvation Army’s second largest fundraiser of the year behind the Red Kettle Campaign and raises money to help support the Army’s year-round programs and services.

Keynote Speaker: John O’Leary
