National Salvation Army Week, which runs May 13-19, was declared by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954, and has served as an annual reminder of the vast scope of our services.

Lt. Colonel Steven J. Merritt, divisional commander for The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division joined Mayor Andy Schor at Lansing City Hall on Monday May 13, to kick off Michigan’s National Salvation Army Week festivities.

The kick-off included media interviews and a commemorative Proclamation was presented to Lansing Capitol Area Salvation Army Corps Officers, Major Nathan and Captain Michelle Johnson, in honor of National Salvation Army week, and particularly The Salvation Army’s presence in Lansing for 140 years.
