The Chicago Bears, The Salvation Army, and the Greater Chicago Good Depository are pleased to announce the creation of the Bears Neighborhood Pantry. The program will supply fresh produce to low-income households in two Chicago neighborhoods on the South and West sides that are considered food deserts at three events beginning on December 8.
The goal of the Bears Neighborhood Pantry is to bring fresh, healthy food to areas where access is limited. Personal shoppers at the pantries will help clients choose from a selection of fresh meats and locally grown produce, as well as canned goods, bread, and more, while supplies last. To help guests discover quick and easy ways to prepare these healthy foods, Chefs from Flik Hospitality Group – the Halas Hall food service provider – will hand out samples of recipes prepared with ingredients available on-site. Guests will also have access to wraparound case management services from The Salvation Army, including rental and utilities assistance, winter coats, SNAP benefits enrollment, and nutritional supplements at Salvation Army corps community centers
