Welcome to Team Salvation Army

Make your miles meaningful. Join The Salvation Army in Doing the Most Good in greater Chicagoland, northern, and central Illinois. Team Salvation Army runners of all backgrounds will further the mission of The Salvation Army locally by raising funds to relieve hunger, provide shelter, combat addiction, prevent evictions, nurture children, and more to help our neighbors in need.

Team Salvation Army runners training for the Chicago Marathon will receive fundraising tips, local stories of encouragement, and direct support from our development team!

Team Salvation Army fundraisers will receive these perks:

  • Limited guaranteed entry to the 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon
  • Marathon training tips
  • Fundraising tips
  • Team Salvation Army race shirt and swag
  • 2 tickets to pre-race pasta & pizza party
  • Special discounts to Salvation Army 2026 events
  • Opportunities to volunteer in person or remotely before or after the marathon to further engage in The Salvation Army’s mission!

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

With fellow teammates, you’ll be #RunningTheMostGood to help The Salvation Army provide essential resources to those most vulnerable. Learn about all the ways your dollars are doing good. We are proud to share that 83 cents of every dollar raised goes directly into programs (national average for The Salvation Army is 82 cents per dollar).

Sunday October 13th, 2024

New registrants who are accepted must raise a minimum of $1,750.

  • Start by completing an interest form. Salvation Army charity coordinators will review your responses and be in touch in 1-2 business days to schedule a phone call and provide next steps.
  • There are a limited number of Team Salvation Army charity guaranteed entry bibs, and invitation to join will be on a rolling basis. We appreciate your understanding if you are not selected this year and encourage you to apply again for the 2025 race.
  • If you have questions, contact us.
  • First, thank you for your generosity! Reach out to sara.ruthberg@usc.salvationarmy.org to let us know you'd like to join the team as a fundraiser to see what you can do!
  • There is no minimum amount needed to be raised for those who have paid for their race entry, but runners who set out to raise $750 or more will additionally receive the Team Salvation Army perks, and every fundraiser will be added to Team communications.
  • If you have questions, contact us.
  • The Salvation Army will pay for charity guarantee entry fundraiser's registration and application fee upfront.
  • If after completing the interest form you are invited to apply for a Team Salvation Army bib, you will be charged the registration fee upon submitting your application.
  • The Salvation Army will reimburse your registration and processing fee once you reach the fundraising minimum of $2,000.
  • As a fundraiser, you are considered a Super Salvation Army Volunteer – thank you!
  • Just as you are committed to fundraising, we are committed to helping you meet your goal! The Salvation Army will send fundraising tips leading up to race weekend. We would love to grab a virtual coffee (or tea) with you to hear about your fundraising goals, and share other ideas on how to make it to the finish line of your fundraiser.
  • We will be utilizing Haku fundraising platform, and their customer service team is also happy to provide technical assistance.

By signing up to run with a Team Salvation Army fundraising bib, you are taking on the responsibility to fundraise the minimum in full. We cannot pair your bib with a different runner if you drop out. We would like runners to understand that signing up to fundraise with a Team Salvation Army charity bib is a responsibility, and we appreciate your commitment to raising or personally donating the entire fundraising minimum to The Salvation Army even if you should become unable to race for any reason.

  • Thank you for your generosity! You can search for and donate to a Team Salvation Army fundraiser here!
  • If you have the means and are interested in becoming a sustaining donor, we invite you to consider giving to our Everything Counts campaign to help your neighbors in need.
