Salvation Army Continues to Serve Houston after Harvey

Houston, Texas (September 4, 2017) – The efforts of The Salvation Army in the Greater Houston Area have shifted to recovery, with The Salvation Army providing shelter and staffing mobile feeding units throughout the Greater Houston Area. Workers from across the United States and Canada continue to serve in Houston supporting efforts in the affected area.

Thirty-five (35) mobile kitchens and response teams, with an average capacity to serve 1,000 meals each day, continue to provide hot meals, snacks, and hydration to Hurricane Harvey survivors, in addition to cleaning kits and other supplies.

The following Salvation Army locations continue to provide emergency shelter to families and individuals who have evacuated their homes:

  • Harbor Light Center: 2407 N Main St, Houston, TX 77009
  • Sally’s House: 1717 Congress Ave, Houston, TX 77002
  • Family Residence: 1603 McGowen St, Houston, TX 77004

In the Greater Houston Area, The Salvation Army has provided:

  • Meals
    • 90,100 meals
    • 57,5782 snacks
    • 38,252 drinks
  • Emotional & Spiritual Care
    • 2,984 spiritual care contacts
  • Service Units
    • 30 mobile feeding units
  • Donations Management and Distribution
    • 2,064 comfort/hygiene kits (per kit)
    • 96 infant supplies
    • 580 blankets
    • 2,064 clothing
    • 1,570 food boxes

How You Can Volunteer

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to help serve for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

There are two steps in becoming an Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) volunteer.

STEP ONE: 

If you would like to volunteer, a profile must be created in our National EDS database.

Your National EDS online profile allows you to provide your availability and monitor training sessions.

Create a Volunteer Profile in our National Database

STEP TWO:

The second step in becoming a volunteer for disaster services, you must create an online profile through the local Emergency Disaster Services for the Metropolitan Division.

Your local online profile with EDS Metro allows you to fill out all the volunteer application forms and to provide your personal and emergency contact information.
