Volunteers are valuable assets in The Salvation Army’s efforts to meet the changing needs of our world. Through the skills and experience they bring to The Army, volunteers make significant contributions to society by positively impacting the lives of those they assist. The Salvation Army volunteers change lives, uplift families and support communities throughout our nation every day.
- Office Assistance - Including answering phones, greeting people, and helping with special projects for the Columbia community.
- Harbor House - A wide variety of help is needed in areas at Harbor House including meal preparation and serving, leading interactive activities, and repair and maintenance projects.
- Thrift Store - Assistance sorting and staging donations.
- Holidays - Decorating, assisting in holiday festivities at our shelter, and other special activities as needed.
The easiest way to help from early November through Christmas Eve is to ring a bell at one of our iconic red kettles, raising the funds that change lives all year long. Volunteers are the difference between an empty kettle and one that raises about $50 per hour — enough to provide a family with two bags of groceries. Online registration begins in the fall.
