STUDIO STL VISITS CAMP MIHASKA
Fox 2’s Studio STL visited The Salvation Army’s Camp Mihaska, a retreat destination for more than 70 years, as this year’s summer camps are fast approaching.
Camp Mihaska, in Bourbon, Mo., opens for summer camp 2022 on June 13 with the five-day sports camp, ages 9 through 15. Seven other camps, including a junior soldiers camp and family camp, run on select weeks through July 25. (View flyer for specific camp details.)
Special activities include basketball, mini golf, rock walls, a swimming pool and ziplines. An activity course has team-building exercises, such as a platform three feet off the ground to fall back into the arms of peers.
“They get taught the word of God through the summer camps,” said Camp Mihaska director Terry Mahurin said. “They just really get to learn that there are people who truly care about them. Not about where they’re from or what they have to give back. It’s not about getting from them, it’s about us giving into them.”
