Midland Division Serves 1,000+ Neighbors on National Night Out
For many communities, the first Tuesday in August marks National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Serving communities in Missouri and Southern Illinois, The Salvation Army corps were fortunate to spend the evening connecting directly with neighbors in safe and inviting environments.
In St. Louis and Springfield, Missouri, and in Jacksonville, Illinois, officers and staff participated in National Night Out, working alongside nonprofit partners and other community organizations. Our Emergency Disaster Services teams and their canteen trucks served food and beverages, from hot dogs to lemonade and popsicles, to more than 1,000 neighbors.
“National Night Out is a visible demonstration of strength, hope and belonging,” said Divisional Commander Major Bob Mueller. “Being present in the communities where we live and work is central to our mission. We enjoyed serving the community, sharing in the joy that this season brings, and engaging others in serving Christ and their community through volunteerism.”
In the St. Louis area, some neighborhoods have shifted their National Night Out celebrations to the first Tuesday in October, when The Salvation Army has plans for additional community outreach.
