NATIONAL SALVATION ARMY WEEK OF MAY 9-15 CULMINATES WITH DOING THE MOST GOOD AWARDS AND BRUNCH

May 10, 2022

We’re still making history! Nearly 70 years after President Dwight Eisenhower declared National Salvation Army Week as a reminder for Americans to give freely of themselves, this week of May 9-15 marks another National Salvation Army Week.

National Salvation Army Week spotlights the vast array of important services we offer all year long, with the help of many generous donors. They range from recovering tornado survivors to feeding the hungry to teaching Bible study classes.

“Among Americans, The Salvation Army has long been a symbol of wholehearted dedication to the cause of human brotherhood,” President Eisenhower said in 1954. “Giving freely of themselves, the men and women of The Salvation Army have won the respect of us all.”

We reflect on our principles this week of loving beyond and doing the most good. They are some of the ideals that we strive for daily, in the example set by Jesus Christ.

As part of our original content this week, we spotlight some of the best people and things The Salvation Army has to offer, including a profile of our outstanding disaster service volunteer, Gretchen Luke, a video of our visit on Fox 2’s “Studio STL” discussing our Camp Mihaska, and an update on our beautiful community volunteer garden in Marion, Ill.

National Salvation Army Week culminates with our divisional Doing The Most Good Awards and brunch on May 14 at the Hilton St. Louis Frontenac. Eight community-leading individuals and groups will be recognized for their contributions to The Salvation Army.
