The Salvation Army Lights Up the Christmas Spirit with Tree of Lights Ceremony Downtown

The Salvation Army of St. Louis marked the beginning of the Christmas season with its enchanting Tree of Lights ceremony on Saturday, November 18th, at Kiener Plaza. This annual event, a key part of the broader Tree of Lights campaign, is not just a celebration but also a critical fundraiser for The Salvation Army’s charitable efforts.
The ceremony, a staple in the St. Louis community, united community members in a festive and heartwarming atmosphere. The highlight was the illumination of the Christmas tree, signifying the start of the holiday giving season.
“The Tree of Lights campaign is more than a holiday symbol; it embodies hope for those in need,” said Major Adam Moore, St. Louis Metro Area Commander for The Salvation Army. “Each light on this tree shines as a beacon of our community's generosity and the impactful changes we can achieve together.”
Baseball legend Ozzie Smith, co-chair of the 76th Tree of Lights Campaign alongside Yolonda Lankford, shared his thoughts: “Being part of this ceremony reminds us of the spirit of giving and togetherness that defines our community. It's an honor to contribute to The Salvation Army's noble cause.”
Mayor Tishaura Jones, who was also present, added, “The Tree of Lights is a symbol of our city’s commitment to supporting each other. This event by The Salvation Army plays a pivotal role in bringing joy and assistance to those who need it most during the holiday season.”
Funds raised through the campaign are vital for supporting The Salvation Army’s services, including providing shelter, food, and a wide range of social services throughout Eastern Missouri and Southern Illinois. The organization encourages the community’s continued support throughout the holiday season.
