The Salvation Army Midland Division EDS Responds to Severe Weather in Southeastern Missouri

May 28, 2024

The Salvation Army Midland Division's Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team responded swiftly to a multi-day severe weather incident that wreaked havoc across the cities of Sikeston and Dexter in southern Missouri. The incident, which included several devastating tornadoes, impacted hundreds of homes and left communities in urgent need of support.

In the wake of the tornadoes, The Salvation Army deployed two canteens and their SATERN communication trailer with responders to the affected areas. These resources played a crucial role in the immediate response, providing food, hydration, and vital communication services to impacted residents.

The EDS team worked tirelessly in coordination with state and local agencies to ensure a comprehensive response. Their efforts were instrumental in delivering much-needed relief and support to the affected communities. The deployment of canteens allowed the team to distribute meals and beverages to those displaced by the storms, while the SATERN (Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network) trailer facilitated effective communication and coordination among the various responding entities.

"The severity of the weather and the extent of the damage required a robust and coordinated response," said a spokesperson for The Salvation Army Midland Division. "Our team was able to work simultaneously in both Sikeston and Dexter, demonstrating the strength and agility of our disaster response capabilities."

Local authorities and residents expressed deep gratitude for the prompt and effective support provided by The Salvation Army. The collaboration with state and local agencies ensured that the response efforts were well-organized and impactful, addressing the immediate needs of those affected by the tornadoes.

As the communities begin the long process of recovery, The Salvation Army remains committed to providing ongoing support and resources. Their efforts exemplify the organization's dedication to serving those in need, particularly in times of crisis.
