The Salvation Army Midtown Service and Treatment Center Earns CARF® Accreditation
The Salvation Army of Greater St. Louis' Midtown Service and Treatment Center has earned highly sought-after accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF®). CARF International is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services. Through accreditation, CARF assists service providers in demonstrating value by the quality of their services and meeting internationally recognized organizational and program standards.
The rigorous accreditation process includes an in-depth review of service and quality standards in over 20 areas including cultural competence, financial management, program management, health and safety, and more — all of which should favor the population they serve. Accreditation promotes active, dynamic planning that is focused on outcomes and impact to stakeholders.
"Having spent seven years assigned to the Midtown Service and Treatment Center earlier in my career, this achievement hits home," said Major Adam Moore, Greater St. Louis Area Commander. "It is incredible to witness its transformation over the past 15 years and to see how God continues to work in our community. Many of the individuals we serve are dually diagnosed with trauma or mental health issues and at risk of being homeless and it's our honor to support them in mind and body."
Recent data from the Missouri Institute of Mental Health showed that overdose deaths across Missouri decreased by 23% in the first six months of 2024 compared to the first six months of 2023. In addition, the proportion of deaths involving an opioid decreased by almost 10%. The Salvation Army's Midtown Service and Treatment Center, amassing 22,500 square feet and 16 beds in Midtown St. Louis, remains well positioned to continue the fight against the opioid epidemic in Missouri.
The Center provides a range of services including ambulatory and residential withdrawal management, outpatient substance abuse treatment and relapse prevention, family education and therapy, spiritual support and short-term residential treatment to adults ages 18 and over. The Salvation Army also provides case management to address housing, medical, employment and other needs.
"The accreditation is recognition of the tireless work of our team at Midtown and signifies our dedication to providing critical social services in St. Louis," said Kimberly Beck, Midtown Service and Treatment Center Executive Director. "CARF-accredited programs often see double-digit year-over-year increases in the volume of individuals they serve due to the efficiency of standardized processes. As social workers, that speaks to our mission — serving the most people and doing the most good we can for this community."
According to CARF, the benefits of accreditation include:
- Business improvement
- Risk management
- Funding/contract access
- Positive visibility
- Peer networking
- Accountability
- Insurance premium savings
- eLearning support
In February 2024, the Midtown Service and Treatment Center introduced a state of-the-art mobile treatment center with support from The Missouri Department of Mental Health and Affinia Healthcare. The mobile center was designed to provide addiction and recovery support throughout the Greater St. Louis area and remove barriers to treatment by taking services to remote parts of the community with high overdose rates.
The Midtown Service and Treatment Center will be accredited for three years, at which time reapplication will be required to maintain its CARF status. The Salvation Army of Greater St. Louis continues its commitment to serving the community's most marginalized neighbors in His name, without discrimination.
