2019 Volunteer of the Year Announced

Sep 28, 2020

The Salvation Army is happy to announce the recipient of the 2019 Volunteer of the Year Award, Dale Stevenson. Dale has been a volunteer with The Salvation Army for 16 years working as a member of The Quincy Salvation Army Advisory Board. In addition to her role as an Advisory Board Member, Dale also chairs the Social Services Committee and volunteers her time at the shelter, family services, and EDS (emergency disaster services).

“Dale is dependable and reliable and is always willing to do whatever needs to be done,” stated Salvation Army Volunteer Coordinator Jeremy Koren. “She is deserving of recognition for her volunteer service and for her continuous support of The Salvation Army.”

When asked what does receiving this award mean to her, Dale said, “I am surprised and humbled to receive this award, especially knowing there are so many volunteers deserving of recognition. The Salvation Army has always been near and dear to my heart, and I feel it is truly a privilege to serve in an organization that does so much good in our community.”

Dale has actively helped to coordinate meals during times of crisis in the Quincy Area, once in 2015 during the windstorm that devastated the area, and last year when The Salvation Army was tasked with feeding the National Guard Troops stationed in Quincy to assist with flood relief efforts. The Stevenson Family has served as Christmas Chairs for The Salvation Army Tree of Lights Campaign and for many years volunteered to deliver Christmas dinners to shut-ins on Christmas Day.

“Dale has a passion and compassion for those in need, and she is always willing to help in a crisis,” stated

Salvation Army Development Director Patty Douglas. “It is an honor to present her with 2019 Volunteer of the Year Award.”

Volunteer opportunities are available through the many programs and services The Salvation Army offers to the community in both Quincy and Hannibal. Some of these opportunities include: answering phones/clerical assistance at Family Services, sorting donations at The Family Store, stocking shelves in the Food Pantry, and serving as an Emergency Disaster Services Team member.
