The Salvation Army and WGEM have teamed up for the 37th Annual WGEM Bucket Blitz in Quincy, IL and Hannibal, MO. The WGEM Bucket Blitz will take place in Quincy at the Quincy Town Center (formally Quincy Mall) South Entrance Monday, December 6 from 6:00am-6:30pm through Thursday, December 9. The event will take place in Hannibal at The Steamboat Bend Shopping Center Tuesday, December 7 from 10:00am-6:30pm through Wednesday December 8. The 2021 goal for Quincy is to raise over $40,000 and the Hannibal goal is to raise over $5,000.

“My wife and I are excited to participate in our first Bucket Blitz,” stated Major Trevor McClintock. “This will be our first Christmas serving the Quincy Area Command, and we have heard nothing but great things about the support The Salvation Army receives from the community during the holiday season. We look forward to spending time ringing bells with volunteers and greeting the donors who drive-thru.”

All proceeds from The Salvation Army Tree of Lights Christmas Campaign provide a variety of programs and services to assist families in need in their respective communities. Following are a few examples of ways The Salvation Army has given a hand up to our neighbors in need.

The Salvation Army Quincy Area Command Emergency Shelter & Family Services provided the following assistance during this year:

492 individuals received 5,066 nights of lodging at the Emergency Shelter. 19,882 meals were provided to shelter residents.
1,579 food boxes were given to the community.
100 households received utility assistance.

210 renters received rent assistance.
9,962 individuals were served by the daily bread line.
3,628 meals and 1,534 hygiene kits were distributed through the neighborhood Canteen Ministry.

Also, during the 2020 Christmas Season:
1,600 families received Christmas food baskets.

15,531 toys were given to children in partnership with Toys for Tots and 19,305 toys were distributed in partnership with Toys for Tots of Northeast Missouri.
