QUINCY ELKS LODGE #100 DONATES $2500 TO SALVATION ARMY

Oct 5, 2020 | by Carolyn Carpenter

Knowing the need to help community members is so great, is what spurred Quincy Elks Lodge #100 to request an Elks National Foundation grant.

“Giving to The Salvation Army isn’t new for Quincy Elks Lodge #100,” stated Steve Barteau, Quincy Elks Lodge #100 Chaplain. “We have partnered with The Salvation Army in the past to provide food donations. We wanted to continue that relationship and we wanted to be more creative with our donation this year.” With the COVID-19 concerns, the Foundation wanted the Lodge to find a way to donate but with as little direct contact as possible. “When Steve called to ask me what I needed I immediately stated ‘Family Store vouchers,’” said Regional Social Services Director Heidi Welty. The voucher program was one the Lodge hadn’t known about. “Hopefully this will raise awareness [of the program],” stated Barteau. Steve Labs, Quincy Elks Lodge #100 Trustee and National Foundation Co-Chair agreed little is known about the program. “I’ve worked with The Army in a variety of capacities and had no idea about the Family Store Voucher Program. I’m thankful this donation will be able to spread the word about this vital program.”

Regional Social Services Director Heidi Welty stated, “We have consistent requests for persons in need of clothing, housewares, and furniture. This donation of $2500 will help so many in our community. I can’t thank The Elks enough for their generosity and kindness. We are beyond blessed to have such a wonderful organization in our community.”

“The support clubs and organizations are an integral part of our success here at The Salvation Army. Without donations like these, many of our programs wouldn’t be able to support and help people in need. We appreciate The Elks for all they have done and are doing for both us here at The Salvation Army, and for our community,” stated Quincy Area Command Coordinator Captain Michael Sjogren.
