QUINCY SALVATION ARMY TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL SALVATION ARMY WEEK MAY 10-16

In celebration of National Salvation Army Week, May 10-16, The Salvation Army Quincy Area Command will host a one-day food distribution event in Pike County, IL, on May 13. The distribution will occur at three separate locations in Pike County. The food boxes will be given away at each location on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no application process. Recipients need to bring a photo ID showing proof of Pike County residency.

Locations & Times:

Pleasant Hill- 11am-noon, First Baptist Church (302 Parkview Drive)

Barry- 1pm-2pm, Barry Food Pantry (603 Decatur)

Griggsville- 3pm-4pm, Western Illinois Fairgrounds (516 S. Oak St)

At this time, the boxes are expected to include: milk, ground beef, a loaf of bread, butter, eggs, flour, sugar, spaghetti noodles, spaghetti sauce, tuna, apples, bananas, cereal, oatmeal, canned corn, and canned green beans. The quantity of food boxes is limited at each location. The food boxes are made possible through the emergency Food and Shelter Program Grant.

In Quincy and Hannibal, The Salvation Army helps people with several different services including rent and mortgage payment assistance, grocery assistance through the food pantry, support to purchase prescription medicine, and assistance with energy bills. In the last year, 20,244 people received support, thanks to generous donors, volunteers, and corporate partners.

In 1954, the U.S. Congress approved a joint resolution for President Dwight D. Eisenhower to proclaim a week to recognize the humanitarian efforts of The Salvation Army, one of the nation’s largest and oldest faith-based health and human service providers.
