THE SALVATION ARMY SEEKING VOLUNTEER AND PAID BELL RINGERS

Oct 5, 2020 | by Magan Hall

With the Christmas season right around the corner, The Salvation Army is once again looking for volunteers to ring bells at red kettle locations in Quincy, Hannibal, and the surrounding area. Kettles with silent bells (unmanned) historically bring in fewer donations than kettles with bells, and with the COVID-19 crisis, the need for donations is greater than ever. Volunteers can sign up online at www.registertoring.com for shifts as short as two hours, they can “Adopt-A-Kettle” for a day, or they can register to virtually ring using the same website.

In addition to volunteer positions, paid positions are also available this Christmas. Paid positions are considered part-time, temporary, and shifts are available from the first day of kettles starting Friday, November 6 and lasting through Thursday, December 24. Applications for these positions are available at The Kroc Center, located at 405 Vermont Street in Quincy. Applications are also available at The Salvation Army Family Store in Hannibal, located at 200 Steamboat Bend Shopping Center.

“The theme for The Salvation Army’s 2020 Christmas campaign is ‘Rescue Christmas,’” stated Volunteer Coordinator Jeremy Koren. “Typically, unmanned kettles collect fewer donations than kettles with bell ringers. When you volunteer to ring bells, you are helping The Salvation Army rescue Christmas for hundreds of local families who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We want to assure all volunteer and paid bell ringers that we have put safety measures in place to help them stay safe and healthy during their time ringing at a kettle. I’m sure that this Christmas will look different for many people, but with your help, The Salvation Army can ensure that the tradition of red kettles and bell ringers stationed outside of your favorite stores during the Christmas season remains a beacon of hope during uncertain times.”

The bell ringing season begins on Friday, November 6 and will end Thursday, December 24. The hours for bell ringing are Monday through Friday 11am - 7pm in Quincy and 11am - 7pm in Hannibal and Saturdays 9am - 7pm in both Quincy and Hannibal. Gather your friends and family to help The Salvation Army “Rescue Christmas” this season by volunteering.
