The Railton Apartments
205 N. 18th Street, St. Louis, Missouri 63103
Office: (314) 621-6800
Originally opened as the Robert E. Lee Hotel, the Railton Residence was purchased by The Salvation Army for $1 in 1939. The building was originally known as Evangeline Booth Home and its intended purpose was to housewives separated from active military husbands during WWII. The building was renamed the "Railton Residence," in the 1970s and opened up to all in need of low-income housing and a hand up.
The Railton Residence closed in October 2008 for complete rehabilitation, as the facility was rapidly nearing functional obsolescence. In order to fulfill the Salvation Army's mission and preserve the Railton as affordable housing, large scale renovations were required. The Railton was reopened in 2010, providing residents with more modern and functional living at a reasonable price.
Units offer 1 to 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living space. The Railton also includes a computer center, fitness facility, laundry center and meeting spaces for resident use.
