The Salvation Army Responds to Devastating Floods in Mid-Michigan
MIDLAND, Mich., (JUNE 1, 2020) –The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) continues to aide individuals, families, and first responders in Midland County in response to the catastrophic flooding caused by the Edenville and Sanford dam failures.
Since the crisis began, The Salvation Army has provided meals to displaced families and long-term workers at the Days Inn and Best Western hotels, distributed blankets to individuals seeking relief at temporary shelters, and provided gift cards to those in need throughout the hardest hit areas. 1,200 clean up kits containing masks, gloves, brooms, mops, trash bags and cleaning solution are also now available to those in need at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center on Waldo Road. Salvation Army clean-up kits will also be available at the United Way’s distribution centers throughout the county. “The flooding was massive, and though the immediate emergency disaster response to this crisis seems to be subsiding, we are preparing for all of the ways we will serve our community in the months ahead, including spiritual and emotional care,” said Captain Brian Goodwill of The Salvation Army Midland Corps Community Center. Anyone in need of spiritual and emotional care or counseling is welcome to call The Salvation Army Emotional and Spiritual Care Hotline. The hotline, available by calling 1-877-220-4195, operates seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
