A Great Blessing
Like too many other single hardworking parents, Brandi lost her job in 2020 because of COVID-19. Struggling to make ends meet, she realized she was not going to make rent. She and her two children were facing homelessness when her state caseworker recommended that she reach out to her local Salvation Army for help.
“I applied for unemployment, but I didn’t receive it right away,” Brandi recalls. “The Salvation Army took a weight off my shoulders.”
The Mount Clemens Corps Community Center provided Brandi with rent assistance and kept the family in their apartment. A few months later, the holiday season arrived, and Brandi reached out again to the corps community center for Christmas assistance.
“They gave my kids the Christmas they deserved,” says Brandi. “I raised them to be grateful and responsible for what they have, from gifts and clothes to the roof over our heads, and it was heartwarming for me to see them enjoy their Christmas.”
Having resumed employment as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician, Brandi has furthered her education through a certification as an EKG tech and is currently becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant.
“You don’t quite know how it feels to help another person until you’re in a predicament where you need help. It’s a great blessing to get to help someone else.”
