A Special Day at The Salvation Army Temple Corps
Thursday, December 22nd, was a special day at The Salvation Army Temple Corps.
Captains Denesia and Norman Polusca, along with several volunteer helpers, held a special luncheon for seniors in the chapel. The lunch, handmade in the Temple kitchen, consisted of chicken, ham, vegetables, and mashed potatoes.
They enjoyed their meal while the Temple choir sang, and Captain Lorna Cossey performed a special devotional.
Chicago’s First Lady, Amy Eshleman, stopped by to visit, hand out dessert and help distribute Christmas gifts. Eshleman was no stranger to the guests, as she’s volunteered several times at the Temple Corps’ food pantry.
But the highlight of the event was the Volunteer Appreciation Award presented by Captain Denesia, Captain Norman, and First Lady Eshleman to Corena Lane.
Ms. Lane has impacted so many individuals over the years at Temple Corps. You can’t walk through the front door without seeing her smiling face.
In 2022 alone, she spent over 3,000 hours volunteering at Temple Corps.
That number looks like a misprint – but it’s not. Ms. Lane really spent 3,000 hours volunteering at Temple Corps in 2022.
For reference, a regular, full-time employee spends 2,080 hours at work in one year; Ms. Lane’s 3,000 hours break down to an average of more than eight hours every single day in 2022.
So, the next time you walk through the doors at Temple Corps, Corena Lane will undoubtedly be there smiling back at you. Make sure you take a moment to congratulate her on her accomplishment.
