Pathway of Hope
Terence Simms is The Salvation Army’s Pathway of Hope Regional Coordinator. He has more than two decades of experience in social science, public policy and political science. His work has concentrated on areas of race, poverty and social policy.
Hope. Hope is a desire beyond a great wish. It is a feeling of trust. Hope is not wishing for something to happen. It isn’t an emotion. Hope is faith. Hope is grounded in the word of God.
The Salvation Army Pathway of Hope program helps families in crisis identify and overcome barriers to their success. This includes becoming current on bills, accessing reliable transportation, securing steady employment and more. But the program is so much more. It is an approach to service and care – a MINISTRY of The Salvation Army! As those who follow God, we have the responsibility to serve Him by improving the human condition; so we are responsible for helping those in need.
Pathway of Hope ministers to the hearts and souls of vulnerable families by helping them to achieve self-sufficiency. Staff members meet with these families to set goals and plans to attain them. Many of our clients lack the necessary resources, information, knowledge and skills that are critical for everyday survival. The Pathway of Hope program provides a gateway to success by building up these necessary skills which will help break the cycle of crisis and enable a pathway out of intergenerational poverty.
In addition, Pathway of Hope offers pastoral care to support people through pain, loss and anxiety, and triumphs, joys and victories.
The Pathway of Hope program is an individualized plan of service designed to address specific needs, desires and abilities, and incorporate all religions, cultural beliefs and values.
