Spring Cleaning: What do you do with items you don’t want?
Spring is here – with the rain, the sun, the breeze and the flowers. Time open the windows, turn up the tunes and get to spring cleaning!
But as you do your cleaning, you inevitably come across items that you no longer like, need or use. What do you do with them? Divide them into piles: throw out and donate. Items that are broken, in disrepair and generally scuzzy should be tossed. Items that are still in good quality but you no longer use or wear can be donated to The Salvation Army.
Here are the top five items needed at Salvation Army Family Stores:
1. Clothes
Clean, gently used clothes of all sizes are always in need. Please make sure they are in good repair (no rips, missing buttons, holes, etc.) and washed.
2. Accessories
Purses, shoes, belts, scarves and everything you’d need to complete that killer ensemble.
3. Toys
Children grow out of toys almost as quickly as they grow out clothes. There’s always another good home waiting for that truck or stuffed animal.
4. Craft Supplies
No longer have time for making scrapbooks or dried flower arrangements? Somebody is looking for that perfect ribbon, thread, glitter pen or scrapbook template.
5. Small Housewares
Coffee makers, toasters, blenders can take up space on your counter and vacuum cleaners get traded in for the newest model. Help them find a new home through The Salvation Army.
After you make sure everything is clean and packed up, you can call 1-800-SA TRUCK or visit www.satruck.org to schedule a pick up or find your nearest site for drop off.
Remember your donations are tax deductible, use our donation value guide.
Proceeds from items sold in The Salvation Army Family Stores benefit the Adult Rehabilitation Center which helps adults in the grip of addiction find help, hope and a second chance at life.
