The Salvation Army joins Retrofit Chicago to reduce energy use
The Salvation Army Metropolitan Divisional Headquarters has joined Retrofit Chicago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s program to promote energy efficiency and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions among Chicago businesses.
“As a member of this program, we are proud to take the next step by committing to a 20 percent reduction in energy usage at the Metropolitan Divisional Headquarters building over the next five years,” said Lt. Colonel Charles Smith, Metropolitan Divisional Commander. “Tracking and sharing our facilities’ energy use is uncovering opportunities for energy and cost savings.”
After a complete assessment of the building’s energy usage, the Army is looking at ways to reduce water, gas and electric consumption. This includes updating our lighting fixtures and timing controls, modernizing the building’s HVAC system and upgrading bathrooms with water-saving devices. We are also looking at ways to harness the earth’s natural energy including solar and wind-driven options.
