The Salvation Army Readies as Dorian's Path Remains Uncertain

Sep 1, 2019

Hurricane Dorian continues to grow in strength, but its path remains uncertain. Regardless of where the storm ultimately makes landfall, there is no doubt there will be considerable damage throughout the United State's southeastern states, including Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.

In light of this, The Salvation Army is already preparing to serve survivors before, during and after the storm.

Here is what the Army is doing right now.

  • The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Leaders are monitoring Hurricane Dorian and are in constant contact as preparations continue.
  • Florida disaster response teams are on standby with as many as 30 mobile feeding units available. Each unit can provide 500 - 1,500 meals a day.
  • Georgia disaster teams stand ready with 21 mobile feeding units and emotional-spiritual support teams.
  • The Salvation Army in Texas has deployed an 11-person Incident Management Team, five mobile kitchens and five Rapid Response Units. Team members are specially trained in key areas of emergency disaster response and will potentially oversee and coordinate relief efforts in a designated area with a typical deployment lasting 14 days.
