Help support ‘Coats for Kids’ campaign now through Sept. 30

Sep 15, 2023

The Salvation Army in the Twin Cities has launched its annual “Coats for Kids” campaign to collect warm weather gear for local children in need. Due to the impact of inflation on rising prices for food, gas, rent, and utilities, the cost of winter wear is an additional stress for families that continue to struggle with financial pressures again this winter.

The public can help by donating new or gently used coats for youth of all ages, as well as winter accessories like hats, mittens, gloves, boots, and snow pants. The drive is running now through Saturday, Sept. 30.

Those who prefer to make a monetary gift can visit GiveCoats.org. Just $25 will provide a new high-quality coat for a local child in need.

“Struggling families are always having to make tough choices,” said Lt. Colonel E. Randall Polsley, commander of The Salvation Army Northern Division, which includes Minnesota and North Dakota. “They continue to struggle with incomes that are not keeping pace with the rising cost of food and living expenses. We need to help keep kids safe and warm this winter by making sure they all have good coats.”

Coats and other winter wear can be dropped off at The Salvation Army's headquarters in Roseville or at any of these service center locations:

Coats can also be dropped off at all Twin Cities Livea Weight Control Centers:

  • Apple Valley: 14800 Galaxie Ave., #302
  • Coon Rapids: 3495 Northdale Blvd., #100
  • Edina: 3601 Minnesota Dr.
  • Minnetonka: 13911 Ridgedale Dr., #115
  • Roseville: 1639 W. County Rd. C
  • Woodbury: 1920 Donegal Dr., #200

The Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids campaign has been helping to keep children warm for over 30 years. In that time, supporters have donated over 400,000 coats to local families in need. Learn more at GiveCoats.org

“Providing a warm coat is one less thing that parents need to worry about,” said Captain Josh Polanco, Twin Cities commander. “We thank the Twin Cities community for supporting this important drive in 2023."
