Salvation Army to Suspend Thrift Store Donations at Six Minnesota Locations

Apr 8, 2020

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Salvation Army has announced an additional step to help mitigate the spread of the virus and provide further safeguards for its clients, staff and volunteers. Effective Saturday, April 11 th at 3:00pm, The Salvation Army Family Stores in several Minnesota cities will no longer accept item donations for the foreseeable future.

“The stores’ retail operations had previously closed on March 23 rd to reduce public gathering and help stem the spread of the virus,” said Joanne Johnson Lee, Service Extension Director for The Salvation Army Northern Division. “This additional step is being taken to further improve safety for both our donors and our employees.”

The Minnesota stores that will be temporarily suspending item donations are located in Cloquet, Fairmont, Faribault, Grand Rapids, Morris and Owatonna. No decision has yet been made as to when the stores will reopen or will again accept item donations.

“We’re encouraging people to hold on to their item donations until it becomes safer for all to make that gift,” Johnson said. “The Salvation Army is very grateful for the support we’ve received from our communities, and we look forward to the day when these stores will be up and running again.”
