KARE 11 ‘Food Fight’ fundraiser and donation drive supports The Salvation Army

Feb 28, 2024

The Salvation Army has a new ally in the fight against hunger: KARE 11.

The local TV news station announced that its annual “Food Fight” fundraiser and donation drive will benefit The Salvation Army’s March Food Drive Feb. 29–March 28.

Throughout March, KARE 11’s anchor teams will square off to see which group can raise the most money. The winner will be announced March 28 during the KARE 11 newscast at 10 p.m. Click on your favorite team below to donate:

KARE 11 will also accept donations of nonperishable foods March 28 during a special weigh-in event at its news studio, 8811 Olson Memorial Highway in Golden Valley, from 8 a.m.–6:30 p.m. Donors will receive free hot chocolate.

If you’d like to donate nonperishable foods but can’t attend the KARE 11 collection, you can also give at the locations of these other food drive partners: Blaze Credit UnionMorrie’s auto dealers, Slumberland FurnitureSchuler Shoes, and Salvation Army Stores. The Salvation Army operates 22 food pantries and 13 hot meal programs in Minnesota, which together provide millions of meals for people and families struggling to afford food.

This year’s food collection is critically important because inflation is hindering The Salvation Army’s ability to serve local families.

“Our food costs have more than doubled during the past year,” said Lt. Col. Randall Polsley, leader of The Salvation Army Northern Division. “We thank KARE 11 for their partnership as we rally community support to keep The Salvation Army’s food pantries stocked in 2024.”
