Feb 8, 2013

Are you looking for a way to utilize your skills to help others? Then take a closer look at the many opportunities available with The Salvation Army disaster services team.

Salvation Army officer with firefighter

The Salvation Army is seeking skilled retired or semi-retired professionals to serve in a number of highly specialized leadership functions. There is a special need right now for volunteers with training and experience in public safety and who have a solid foundation in the Incident Command System. If you have fire, law enforcement or emergency management experience you may be a good fit for positions available within our emergency service ranks. Read more about these specific jobs.

Candidates who think they are up to the challenge should contact our disaster services office in Roseville, Minn. at 651-746-3400 for more information.

More on Necessary Skills

Volunteers can choose functions in which they wish to specialize by completing The Salvation Army’s corresponding advanced-level training. Those interested need to demonstrate strong supervisory and leadership skills, and be highly adaptable in rapidly changing and often difficult working environments.

Volunteers must work well with others under pressure, and ultimately have a heart to serve no matter the task. Prospective volunteers should be willing to support the Christian mission of The Salvation Army.

Non-Emergency Commitments

When we are not responding to a local apartment fire or large disaster, such as the Northeast Minnesota floods, we participate in drills, exercises, and community events year round.

Those interested should be available on average of 20-30 hours per month, and available to deploy for a minimum of 2 weeks anywhere in Minnesota or North Dakota. Visit our disaster relief page to learn about the application process.

More on the Mission

The Salvation Army has a proud history of serving in times of disaster, beginning with our first response when a hurricane devastated Galveston, Texas in 1900. The goal of The Salvation Army is to address the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of those adversely impacted by disasters, in Christ. The Salvation Army is seeking highly dedicated volunteers that demonstrate a firm commitment to our mission.

We aren’t looking for bodies to just do jobs; we are looking for individuals who will go the distance to help us build a team that is second to none, capable of providing unwavering service to those in need.
