What We Believe Image

What We Believe

Many people see The Salvation Army only as red kettles at Christmastime or a place to drop off used clothing. But, at its very heart, The Salvation Army is a Christian church with a mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. (What is the gospel?) Read our doctrinal statements.

We believe our faith calls us to roll up our sleeves and get to work – to meet the material and emotional needs of a person before we can minister to them spiritually. That’s why our Worship and Service Centers are not only places of Sunday worship for a regular community of believers, but also places that offer social services and community programs to those in need.

Salvation Army officers are the pastors at our Worship and Service Centers who lead worship every Sunday. All are invited to attend. Church members are called soldiers or “Salvationists,” because they work on the front lines to help sustain our services. The Salvation Army crest is a symbol of many core beliefs of our churches.

The Salvation Army is a Christian ministry that provides services to anyone regardless of religion, beliefs or lack thereof. We are called to serve in Christ’s name without discrimination and value each person as God’s creation who is loved beyond measure. Learn more about our multicultural programs that nourish the minds, bodies and souls of people from all across the world.

Despite our record of service, we know rumors of LGBTQ+ discrimination persist. Read our response to these false accusations.
