Gold coin found in Salvation Army of Milwaukee County Red Kettle

MILWAUKEE COUNTY – A gold coin was found in a Salvation Army of Milwaukee County red kettle last week.

The gold coin is estimated to be $2,800. It was dropped in a kettle at Winkie’s in Whitefish Bay on December 11.

“This generous donation in our kettle was a wonderful surprise,” said Major Beverly Gates, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County. “We are so blessed to have a community that supports us and helps us care for those most in need.”

The annual red kettle campaign is in full swing. So far, about $1.4 million has been raised. The goal for the Christmas season is $3.5 million.

“This means so much to us because we can help more people with basic needs and will help to keep our programs going,” Gates said.

Red kettles will be out in the community until December 24. If you would like to sign up to ring bells, please visit registertoring.com. Donations can be made at the red kettles or by texting MKE to 24365.
