A Path Out of Poverty Image

A Path Out of Poverty

We offer both short-term solutions and long-term strategies
to help people in need.

Give Today

Poverty Isn't Always Visible

Nearly 15 percent of North Platte residents live below the federal poverty line.

And yet, we don't always recognize poverty, even when it's in our own community. Our mission is to provide help for families and individuals in order to see a hope-filled future.

How We Help Overcome Poverty

Rent, Utilities and General Assistance
No one should ever have to choose between paying a utility bill and putting food on the table. That's why we help low-income individuals and families close the gap when there is a financial shortfall. For example, we are grateful to partner with Black Hills Energy to offer utility assistance via HeatShare funds. Learn more about HeatShare.

Backpack and Back-to-School Supplies Drive
Families living within a limited budget often find the back-to-school season particularly challenging. The costs of school supplies can add up quickly, which is why we are happy to help kids get what they need to start the school year off on the right foot.

Christmas Assistance
Because the holidays can put an even greater strain on an already-tight budget, we provide toys and food at Christmas to families in need. Call our office for details.

Food Programs
Hunger is one of the worst effects of poverty, which is why we offer a food pantry, a weekly produce giveaway and a community soup supper every week. Learn more about how we help cure hunger.

Pathway of Hope
The goal of Pathway of Hope is to guide families with children 18 years and younger through crisis and instability to a place of security in order to ultimately break the intergenerational cycle of poverty. We offer strengths-based casework, providing services such as:

  • financial counseling and planning
  • goal setting with manageable action steps
  • job training, referrals and employment assistance
  • assistance with securing housing and child care
  • emotional and spiritual support

Pathway of Hope works with people where they are, offering practical guidance to help families overcome obstacles and achieve their big-picture goals.
