HAPPENING NOW: NOMINATION SEASON FOR 25TH ANNIVERSARY D.J.’S HERO AWARDS

Feb 7, 2024 | by Daisy Hutzell-Rodman

Nominations are being accepted now through March 13, 2024, for the D.J.’s Hero Awards scholarships.

At least 16 scholarships – each worth $12,000 – will be granted this year, with each prize given toward a winner’s selected college or university. The recipients must meet several criteria, including being high school seniors and Nebraska residents who have overcome challenges and adversity. They must also prove commitment to helping others and the community. The honorees will be selected by a panel of metro-area civic leaders and recognized May 7 at the D.J.’s Hero Awards Luncheon in Omaha.

The project is an integral part of The Salvation Army of Omaha, and the accompanying celebration luncheon is a highlight of the year for the organization. This year is significant, as 2024 marks the 25th anniversary of the program that was named in honor of the late D.J. Sokol.

Nominators and their nominees need to apply online at www.djshero.org by 11:59 p.m. March 13. Please call 402-898-7669 with any questions.
