Help Kids Kick Off the School Year Right
With grocery and gas prices soaring to record levels, many families in the Omaha metro and beyond will struggle to afford the cost of new school supplies for their children. That’s why this year’s Salvation Army 7 Can Help Kids Back to School Backpack program is more critical than ever.
You can be a part of this important effort by dropping off new school supplies through August 7 at select Methodist Health System Urgent Care, Metro Credit Union, Cubby’s and Salvation Army locations (see specific location addresses below).
Items needed include:
- Backpacks
- Rulers
- Spiral notebooks
- Erasers
- Glue
- Crayons
- Colored pencils
- Theme paper
- 2-pocket folders
- Pens
- Pencils
- Reusable water bottles
- Hand sanitizer
- Tissues

Online donations to the Back to School Backpack program can be made here.
Backpacks and school supplies will be distributed to families in need in Omaha at The Salvation Army North Corps Community Center and the Kroc Center on Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. (or while supplies last) and at Westroads Mall on Saturday, August 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or while supplies last). Proof of enrollment for each child is required.
In Council Bluffs, pre-registration for the Back to School Backpack Drive is required from July 11-22 on the Charles E. Lake Human Services Campus Facebook page.
