Online Applications for the 2023 D.J.’s Hero Awards are Now Open

Jan 31, 2023

Are you an enterprising Nebraska high school senior who gives back to your community?

Do you know a deserving student who would benefit from a scholarship to attend college?

If yes, applications and nominations for The Salvation Army’s 2023 D.J.’s Hero Awards
are being accepted through March 8!

The Salvation Army Omaha will award a minimum of 16 D.J.’s Hero scholarships this year—each amounting to $12,000. All scholarships will be disbursed at a rate of $3,000 annually (up to 4 years). The awards recognize Nebraska high school seniors who exemplify perseverance and selflessness and who are servant-leaders in their communities.

Ten $12,000 D.J.’s Hero Scholarships are underwritten by David and Peggy Sokol in loving memory of their son, D.J., who lost his battle with cancer in 1999 at age 18. D.J. is remembered for his passion for life, his engaging sense of humor and his selfless focus on family, friends and community. His legacy lives on in the Nebraska high school senior scholarship recipients who demonstrate his resilience and generosity.
