SALVATION ARMY OF OMAHA HELPING THOSE IN NEED AMID ONGOING HEAT WAVE

Aug 23, 2023

Amid six consecutive days with high temperatures ranging from the mid-90s to over 100 degrees, The Salvation Army is offering multiple ways for those in need to beat the heat.

Cooling Centers

Cooling centers offer air-conditioned spaces and cold bottled water during specific operating hours. They’re typically activated during times of extremely hot temperatures. Anyone in need of relief from the heat is welcome to stop in. Cooling center hours are as follows:

North Corps
2424 Pratt St.
This week through Thursday, August 24 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The Salvation Army of Omaha Summer Fan Program

The Salvation Army is distributing boxed fans—free of charge—to those in need throughout the summer. This is done at the Burrows Center for Help and Hope in Benson (6101 NW Radial Hwy). Anyone in need is eligible, but preference will be given to the disabled and to seniors. To receive a fan, one must bring the following to Burrows Center (please call 402-898-5860 with any questions):

  • Photo ID
  • Social Security card or birth certificate
  • Proof of address within the last 30 days
