Salvation Army Western Division Offers Food-Service Operations in Hard-Hit Iowa Towns and Other Locations

Here’s a review of some of The Salvation Army’s flood-relief operations across the three-state area on Tuesday, March 26 and Wednesday, March 27, as well as a look ahead at what’s set for Thursday, March 28:

Council Bluffs, IA -- Officers, staff and volunteers from the Council Bluffs Corps began food-service operations in Hamburg, Iowa, with lunch on Wednesday, March 27, and plan to continue serving lunch in the flood-affected community in the days to come.



Sioux City, IA -- The team served meals -- including dinner to approximately 160 on Tuesday, March 26 -- and provided financial assistance in nearby Hornick, Iowa, and is now in the process of reaching out to additional communities in the area that may be in need of financial assistance. Plans call for a Sioux City-based team to return to Ponca, Nebraska, on Thursday, March 28, where they will go door-to-door to offer financial assistance and emotional-spiritual care (ESC).

Omaha, NE -- The Kroc Center team served nearly 900 meals on Tuesday, March 26, between operations in Sarpy and Douglas Counties. The team is now providing food to 12 different flood-relief locations/operations. In addition, the Disaster Resource Center continued its operations near 84th and Center; it’s open again Thursday, March 28, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

Norfolk, NE -- Officers, staff and volunteers continued to serve meals on the Santee Reservation in Knox County, Nebraska, on Wednesday, March 27.

Fremont, NE -- Officers, staff and volunteers served about 140 meals at lunchtime and is gearing up to serve as many as 300 meals per day between two sites in town going forward.  

Watertown, SD -- The team delivered bottled water to nearby communities in Hamlin County as flood-prevention efforts continued there.
