The Salvation Army to Join Multi-agency Resource Center in Marshalltown

Jul 24, 2018

Salvation Army officers, staff and volunteers will join with other relief agencies to bring all disaster relief services under one roof.

The Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) is set to open at noon Tuesday inside Marshalltown High School, 1602 S. 2nd Ave. The Red Cross will run the center, and The Salvation Army, along with other support agencies such as Habitat for Humanity, will all have personnel on hand there. People needing assistance are encouraged to go to the MARC to receive relief services from the agencies.

The MARC will be open Tuesday from noon – 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Elsewhere in Marshalltown, Salvation Army staff are working toward reopening the corps community center, which was among the hundreds of local buildings damaged by the F3 tornado that struck the community last week. Captain Pam Kasten, Marshalltown corps officer, hopes to have the facility reopened by Friday but asks that people call The Salvation Army at 641-753-5236 before they go there.

Salvation Army personnel have been working day and night to provide relief to residents affected by the disaster. We have served 2,622 meals, 8,912 drinks and 6,709 snacks as part of its ongoing relief efforts in Marshalltown on Monday alone.

Since operations began Thursday evening, a total of 15,273 meals and 74,721 drinks and snacks have been served, and 376 people have been given emotional and spiritual care.

“The outpouring of love and support in the wake of the disaster has been truly heartwarming,” Captain Kasten said. “Our sincere thanks go out to all the first responders, volunteers, donors, and everyone who’s played a part in the relief effort.”

Anyone needing assistance who is unable to get to the MARC can still receive assistance via The Salvation Army Marshalltown Corps Community Center once it is back in operation.

How You Can Help

The best way to help tornado survivors and rescue workers is to make a financial donation. All donations will go directly to the affected communities. Contributions to The Salvation Army’s relief work in Iowa can be made online at donate.salarmywestern.org/iowatornadoes.
