The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of October 2

Sep 29, 2023

We have a choice to obey the voice of God and act in faith -- or to remain silent and react in fear.

It’s not always easy to stand up for what you believe in, especially if it could cost you your reputation, friends, job, or livelihood. In Esther 4, Mordecai, Esther’s uncle, tells Esther the king’s plan to kill all the Jews on a particular day. Esther has the opportunity to help her people in a time of great need.

Mordecai tells Esther, “For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place”. This is a clear statement that deliverance will come. If Esther refuses to help, God will use someone else to rescue them. God’s plan is not dependent on any one person, and He doesn’t need us to fulfill His work. God brings us into His mission, even though He doesn’t need to. We get to make the choice to answer His call.

We are in the exact spot that God has planned for us to be in; He doesn’t create accidents. The question we must ask ourselves is: are we willing to be used by Him in order to accomplish His purposes?

The good news is that we don’t have to face life on our own. Just like God puts us in the right place at the right time, He puts people in our lives for a reason. We can lean on those around us to help and encourage us.

God doesn’t need us, but He chooses us. Esther is someone in the bible who can inspire us to follow the Lord’s voice and His plan for us. She was brave, faithful, and loving -- and we can attain those attributes by putting our faith in the One who saves.
