The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of September 25

Sep 21, 2023

To become a better servant of the Lord, we must possess the same mindset or attitude of Christ.

Jesus was perfect, free of sin, yet he was a servant of God. Jesus spent his time on earth serving those around Him and using the gifts God gave Him to lead people to Him through performing miracles and teaching. Jesus is our primary example of how we should be living as Christians.

In the book of Philippians, Paul is writing to the church at Philippi to tell them how they should be living their lives. He is giving practical advice on how to live a life like Jesus. Throughout much of chapter two, Paul talks about our attitudes and how they determine our actions. If we have a good attitude towards servitude, our actions will show it.

In verse four, Paul writes, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also the interests of others.” Paul wants us to focus on the interests of others, and that’s not always easy to do. If we are acting out of wrongful ambition, pride, and selfishness, we will move further from acting in love and unity.

It takes humility and patience to put others before ourselves, but Jesus did it every day He was on earth. He performed the most selfless act by dying on the cross for our sins, and He did it with a good attitude. This great act of love should inspire us to think about how we can serve those around us better and with a joyful attitude.

Make it a goal to serve someone in your life every day, even when you don’t want to.
