The Weekly Word Advent Series - A Devotion for the Second Week of Advent
During the busy month of December, we are offering this special Weekly Word Advent Series as an invitation to turn away for a few moments from the holiday hustle and turn toward the One who came to save us.
This week’s Scripture is from John 1:14 (The Message)
The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, generous inside and out, true from start to finish.
When Jesus was incarnated, He literally took the form of a human body -- flesh and blood, breath and feeling -- and “moved into the neighborhood.” Jesus took up residence here on Earth and lived side-by-side with men, women and children. He prayed, ate and traveled with them. He conversed, laughed and wept with them. His presence was woven into the fabric of their everyday lives.
Two thousand years later, Jesus still lives and moves among us. He lives in the homeless man on the city street corner. He is in the single mother, struggling to make ends meet. He is in the refugee and in the person battling addiction. He is in a child’s laughter, in a mother’s comforting touch, in the neighbor who comes alongside another.
The season of Advent is a time of quiet expectancy and anticipation as we await the birth of Jesus Christ. But the truth is, Jesus is already here – in our neighborhoods, in our neighbors, in us. Let us open our eyes so that we may see His glory everywhere.
Gracious God, please open my eyes and heart amid the busyness of this season so that I may see and experience Your presence. Amen.
