Westlake Ace Hardware partners with The Salvation Army

Jun 12, 2024 | by Daisy Hutzell-Rodman

The CDC reports that an average of 1,220 people are killed each year by extreme heat — often a preventable condition. One way to prevent suffering from heat-related illnesses is using a box fan, and interested persons can help The Salvation Army assist those most vulnerable now through June 16.

Westlake Ace Hardware is once again partnering with The Salvation Army with an annual fan drive that helps local residents stay cool as the temperatures soar. Customers at Westlake Ace Hardware stores will be encouraged to donate by rounding up their purchases at the register. Those who prefer to donate online can visit westlakehardware.com/fan-drive

Thanks to the generosity of Omahans, Westlake Ace Hardware donated more than $5,500 in 2023; and a resulting 315 box fans were given to The Salvation Army of Omaha for distribution.

“As the summer heat approaches, the needs of the families we support only increase,” said Commissioner Kenneth Hodder, National Commander of The Salvation Army. "Families should not have to endure uncomfortable temperatures on top of their existing struggles. The continued partnership and support from Westlake Ace Hardware and its generous customers enables us to provide essential relief to our neighbors in need.”

The date and place for the distribution of fans will be announced at a later date. Anyone in need of a boxed fan is eligible, but preference will be given to adults 50 and older and those who are disabled.
