Winter Night Watch Wraps Up Busy ’24-’25 Season

Mar 8, 2025 | by Daisy Hutzell-Rodman

OMAHA, Nebr. (March 8, 2025) – The Salvation Army of Omaha’s Winter Night Watch program completed its latest season of community service on Friday, March 7.

Per tradition, dozens of volunteers led the charge over the winter months – stocking, staffing, and driving the canteens (food trucks) that power the program.  Weeknights from late November to the first week of March, they drove multiple routes around Omaha, bringing hot meals and warm winter gear directly to people experiencing homelessness.

This latest season saw those volunteer crews in constant motion, handing out meals and provisions at a rapid pace.  Their hard work was reflected in the final stats for the ’24-’25 season, which are as follows:

  • Meals served:  7,754
  • Blankets distributed:  1,216
  • Clothing items distributed:  7,721
  • Hygiene kits distributed:  388
  • Volunteer hours served:  367

Our thanks go out to all the volunteers, employees, and officers who made it such a successful year for this staple program, which has now been running for more than three decades.  We look forward to another outstanding season starting in November.
